Rafael Nadal: Does the Spaniard have more Grand Slam titles left in him?
First time in a decade, Nadal has failed to win a Grand Slam in a year.
New Delhi: Playing for Indian Aces, Rafael Nadal has been in fine form in the second edition of the ongoing International Premier Tennis League (IPTL). But despite him performing well in the tournament, the major question is whether he can win more Grand Slams?
The 14-time Grand Slam has had a forgettable year, where for the first time in a decade, he failed to win a Grand Slam.
How bad was his form could be ascertained from the fact that even at French Open, a tournament where he has dominated like no other player with nine titles, his invincibilty was brought to an end by Novak Djokovic, who lost against Stanislas Wawrinka in the final.
While injuries have troubled him in the last few years, Nadal has failed to show his magic in major tournaments. His forehand, which was touted to be the most lethal shot in modern day tennis for several years, is no more the same and even unheralded players have knocked him out from several tournaments.
Many believe that the IPTL matches are nothing less than exhibition matches, however, the 29-year- old thought differently when he said, "I don't think these are exhibition matches, these games are very competitive. The intensity of competition is good. I feel the rules are perfect in the IPTL and it's a great idea. But obviously, in the (ATP) World Tour, it doesn't have a place," asserted the 29-year-old.
It remains to be seen whether Rafa can start afresh next year, with his fans desperately waiting him to add more majors to his tally of 14.
