New Delhi: Indian badminton ace Saina Nehwal defeated China's Sun Yu 11-21, 21-14, 21-19 to win the 2016 Australian Open Super Series title on Sunday.

Within hours of her winning the title, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to congratulate India's No.1 player.



Batting great Sachin Tendulkar also spare a thought, and wished her good luck for 2016 Rio Olymppics.



Another former India batsman VVS Laxman hailed Saina's "physical and mental strenght".



Indian cricket player Shikhar Dhawan and Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan also congratulated Nehwal.




This is Nehwal's first title of the year, and also her second Aus Open title, having clinched it in 2014 as well. Her last title was at the India Super Series in New Delhi in last year. She has now won ten Super Series titles, including three Premier crowns.
