Sasikala out of jail but can`t have political meetings, media interactions
On her five-day parole, Sasikala cannot have any political interactions.
Chennai: VK Sasikala, the jailed interim general secretary of the AIADMK, has been in prison since the Supreme Court upheld her conviction in a disproportionate case in February this year.
Nearly eight months later, she has managed to leave the Bangalore jail on a five-day parole.
Last week, she was denied parole by jail authorities on account of incomplete paperwork. However, this time, she was granted the parole, with a condition.
"During her parole, Sasikala is restricted to only visit hospital where her husband is admitted or residing, which is mentioned in her petition," Bengaluru Central Prison said. "Sasikala can't entertain any visitors or involve in any public or party activities or interact with media," prison officials said.
Sasikala's husband M Natarajan, 74, was recently admitted to the Liver Intensive Care Unit of a Chennai-based hospital. He was suffering from various diseases of the liver along with lung congestion and kidney failure. On Wednesday, he underwent a liver and kidney transplant.
Expecting her release, her nephew TTV Dhinakaran arrived at the Bengaluru Central prison with a group of supporters.
Sasikala was the closest aide of Jayalalithaa and shared her upscale Poes Garden home in Chennai for decades. After Jayalalithaa's death in December last year, she established herself as the AIADMK general secretary and tried to take over as the Chief Minister.
It was the same time when the Supreme Court held her convict in a disproportionate case dating back to 1990s.
