New Delhi: Verizon Wireless, the biggest wireless provider in the US, said on Friday that it will be issuing a crippling software update on Monday tat will render the remaining Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phones useless.
This update for the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 device will be the final nail in the coffin. All those hanging on to their Galaxy Note 7, despite the danger of the exploding batteries, will be unable to use their phone until January 5, 2017.
The update will come into effect once the holiday season is over as Verizon would like to avoid disruptions for owners to contact family, first responders and emergency medical professionals during the holiday travel season, according to Verizon's Note 7 recall site .
Users will be able to exchange their devices for a new one even after deactivation. cnet.com added that AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint will also issue the software updates from Samsung. T-Mobile's update will come December 27, while AT&T will release the update on January 5. Sprint will push out the new software to its users on January 8.
