Civic poll results eye-opener for those making tall claims against BJP: CM Adityanath
As per the latest figures, of the 16 mayoral seats, the BJP has won 13 seats and leading in 1.
LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Friday that BJP's landslide victory in the state civic polls showed people have accepted the "party's ideology" and its "corruption-free governance'.'
''I attribute this victory to PM Narendra Modi's vision and BJP chief Amit Shah's electoral strategies and my party colleagues," the chief minister said here at a press conference.
He also said, "The results are an eye-opener for those making tall claims against BJP govt in Gujarat and elsewhere.''
"I thank the state's 4.4 crore people for participating in the polls. Our government will continue to work to strengthen the grassroots institutions envisioned in the constitution," he said.
BJP appeared set for a massive victory in at least 14 out of the 16 municipal corporations. Mayawati's BSP has made a surprising comeback after a slew of electoral defeats. Her party had fallen out of favor in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls and the assembly elections earlier this year.
The counting of votes for all 652 urban local bodies had begun at 8:00 am on Friday and all the results were expected to be announced later in the evening.
The civic polls are being seen as a referendum of the Yogi Adityanath government's performance in the past seven months.
