The apex court notice came after hearing a petition filed by the producer of the film against the state government's decision to ban the film screening in certain districts.

The film was granted a UA certificate by the Censor Board but authorities in eight districts of the state had banned the release stating that it may create law and order problems in the state.

Made on the backdrop of the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots, the film is a love story of a Hindu boy and a Muslim girl.

The censor board had ordered some cuts which the producer claims were duly carried out. The film was released on November 17 across India.
