UP: 1 dead, 6 injured in clashes in Kasganj over R-day celebration; Section 144 imposed
A 16-year-old boy was on Friday killed and six others were injured in clashes that broke out following stone pelting at a motorcycle rally in Uttar Pradesh`s Kasganj over Republic Day celebration.
LUCKNOW: A 16-year-old boy was on Friday killed and six others were injured in clashes that broke out following stone pelting at a motorcycle rally in Uttar Pradesh's Kasganj over Republic Day celebration.
The incident took place after some unidentified men hurled stones at the Tiranga Yatra taken out by a group of youths to celebrate the Republic Day. Almost a dozen of vehicles were damaged.
"One person died during arson, firing and stone pelting, while two others sustained injuries today. The deceased has been identified as Chandan (16). Curfew has been imposed in the city," District Magistrate RP Singh had said.
Following the clash, section 144 was imposed. Section 144 prohibits the presence of persons carrying firearms and others articles capable of causing injury, raising slogans and exhibiting placards.
A curfew was also imposed in the city which has now been withdrawn.
Additional DG (Law and Order) Anand Kumar had said, "The trouble makers are being identified, and stringent action will be initiated against them. The district administration has been able to control the situation so far, but additional forces will be called to ensure that the situation does not worsen."
"Several people have been detained for interrogation. Action will be taken against those responsible after proper investigation," he added.
Additional forces from adjoining districts have been sought, IG Aligarh (range) Sanjeev Gupta said.
