Five army personnel and a woman were injured on Thursday when militants targeting an army convoy detonated an improvised explosive device at Pothkhah-Sangrama, 43 kms from Srinagar on Srinagar-Sopore road, an official spokesman said. Five soldiers were injured and their vehicle badly damaged when militants set off the IED, planted in a hand-cart on the road side, with a remote control at 1100 hours, the spokesman said. A woman passing through the road in a car was also injured in the blast, he said. She was later shifted to a hospital at Srinagar.
However, defence sources quoting initial reports said four army jawans were injured in the blast due to flying splinters of the IED and subsequent collision between two army vehicles. The driver of one army vehicle which was part of a convoy on way to Sopore from Srinagar lost control over the vehicle due to the deafening sound of the explosion leading to a collision, the defence sources said.
The injured soldiers were rushed to hospital where two of them were discharged after first aid, they said.
No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack.
