Journalist-emissary R R Gopal returned in Chennai on Thursday after a second round of negotiations with outlaw Veerappan in the jungles for securing the release of Kannada thespian Rajkumar and three others, official sources said. Gopal is will meet Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Thursday at 11:15 and he will convey to him the status of his negotiations with the sandalwood smuggler, the sources said.
Rajkumar and three others were abducted by Veerappan on July 30. Gopal had embarked on his second mission on August 17.
The sources said, Mr Gopal, even after completing his second mission, could not make much headway for securing the release of Dr Rajkumar.
He could, however, convince the brigand on some of his demands.
It was learnt that Veerappan was not keen on some of his earlier demands like referring the Cauvery water dispute to the international court of justice for adjudication. He was, however, insisting on the release of five Tamil extremists in Tamil Nadu and 51 TADA prisoners in Karnataka.
