One person was killed and several others were injured in police firing when a Congress communist party march to the state assembly turned violent.
A number people were wounded in the lathi-charge. Angry activists then torched four police vehicles, three RTC buses and three private vehicles. Police Commisioner S R Sukumara claimed that only 12 persons were admitted to hospitals with bullet injuries but this number was much higher.

Moreover the Congress and the Communist parties called off the 11-day fast unto death by their MLA’s. They also called a state bandh on Tuesday against the police firing. The decision to call off the fast came after a meeting of top Congress, CPI, CPI-M, CPI-ML leaders. However the opposition parties has made it clear that their agitation against the power tariff hike would continue.
