A Turkish ship with 600 refugees on board ran aground early on Sunday only metres from the southern Italian coast, state television reported. Authorities were moving the refugees to a transit camp after the ship Nilderya ran aground near Crotone on the Ionian Sea. The passengers' nationalities were not known, but thousands of Albanians and Kurds from Turkey and Iraq have been smuggled into Italy with their ultimate destination often being France or Germany.
