Security forces shot dead 14 militants in encounters, smashed several militant hideouts and seized a big cache of arms and explosives, including 50 kg of RDX, but lost two of their personnel in J&K since Wednesday, an official spokesman said at Srinagar on Thursday. Five militants and two security personnel were killed in a four-day long operation at Saktoor in Gurez sector of Baramulla district in North Kashmir, he said.
The operation concluded last evening and a big cache of arms and ammunition, including five AK assualt rifles, were recovered from the deceased ultras, the spokesman said. Two hardcore Hizbul Mujahideen militants, identified as Raja Jehangir of Pakistan and Syed Majid of Surankote (Poonch) were killed in an encounter at Saranchi in Doda district of jammu on Thursday. The operation was on, he said.
In another encounter, six unidentified militants were gunned down by Jammu & Kashmir police at village Chandhok in Poonch district last night.
One Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) militant, identified as Abu Hilal of Afghanistan, was shot dead in an encounter near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch, sources in Jammu said. Army and police personnel smashed four let hideouts in Kasbalari village of Rajouri district and seized 50 kg of RDX and a number of arms and explosives, the sources said.
Five sealed boxes of AK ammunition, two Solar missiles, two smoke bombs, 40 rpgs, 24 rocket boosters and six AK rifles were among the seizures, the sources said.
