Hyderabad, Aug 29: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday charged the Congress and Left parties with joining hands with extremists to indulge in violence during the “Chalo Assembly” programme on Monday. Intervening the discussion on an adjournment motion sought to be moved by the Congress, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Majlis in the state assembly, Naidu said there was a need for a national-level debate on political violence. Soon after the House met for the day, opposition members started protesting, demanding adjournment of the House. Naidu criticised certain parties for “adopting agitational programmes”, especially at a time when the people were suffering from hardships on account of the recent natural calamity. Leader of the Opposition Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, who initiated the discussion after Speaker K. Pratibha Bharathi allowed the motion, denied Naidu's charge that the Congress and Left parties had joined hands with extremists. The Congress was the worst victim of extremism, he added. Dr Reddy said his party was only trying to alleviate the sufferings of the people and the agitation against the power tariff hike was not for political gains. —UNI
