A youth on Saturday evening set himself on fire at Shakurbasti railway station in the national capital. Though the identity of the youth could not be ascertained, but reports said that he was a Sikh youth as he wore a turban.

According to a report in Mail Today, the youth first took out a bottle of kerosene from his bag and poured the same on his body. He then used a match stick to set self on fire. He soon began crying for help and squirmed for minutes before succumbing the injuries on the spot.


The report quoted Sarai Rohilla GRP official as saying that by the time the authorities were approached by people, the youth had succumbed to his injuries.


This incident once against exposed the apathy of people who remained mute spectators and did nothing to save the youth. Instead of reaching out to the youth, some people clicked photographs and filmed the incident on their mobile phones.


The authorities are waiting for anyone to claim his body. The report quoted authorities as saying that they will go for the post mortem of the body after someone comes to claim it.
