Samajwadi Party leader arrested for extortion bid
A Samajwadi Party leader was arrested for allegedly trying to extort Rs 1 lakh from an ex-councillor of Meerut municipal corporation.
Meerut: A Samajwadi Party leader was arrested on Friday for allegedly trying to extort Rs 1 lakh from an ex-councillor of Meerut municipal corporation here, police said.
Ex-councillor Abraar Ahmed`s wife Navi Band had lodged a case against Aas Mohammed alias Laden, in-charge of South Assembly constituency, stating that he had demanded Rs 1 lakh from Ahmed in February, police said. Laden was arrested and sent to jail today, they said.
He is a history-sheeter and has several cases of extortion registered against him in Kankarkheda area, they said. PTI
