The incident took place two days ago, but it came to light only when the State Police Officers Association took up the matter and demanded immediate arrest of the MLA.

This is a second such incident in the district this month. Earlier, a case was registered against TDP MLA from Denduluru, Chintamaneni Prabhakar, for allegedly assaulting an assistant sub-inspector and some other police personnel.

Radha Krishna, against whom a case of wrongful restraint (section 342) and assault or criminal force to public servant (section 353) of IPC was registered by Tanuka rural police, denied the charges.

He merely "enquired" about a case, he said.

The matter relates to a land dispute. Four days ago, police arrested six TDP and three YSRC men following a clash between two groups.

Radha Krisha, who was irked by the arrest of TDP men, summoned Iragavaram sub-inspector K Srinivasa Rao and police writer Pradeep Kumar to his office on Thursday night, and allegedly made them sit on the floor for several hours and abused them for "violating my orders".

The two police officers were set free only when the district superintendent of police Bhaskar Bhushan called up the legislator, police sources said.
The criminal case was registered today.

"We demand immediate arrest of the MLA," Police Officers Association's honorary president M Gangadhar and president J Srinivasa Rao told reporters in Eluru.
