Assam, Dhemaji Assembly by-election Results 2017: BJP`s Ranoj Pegu wins
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ranoj Pegu wins Assam`s Dhemaji assembly by-poll by a margin of 9,285 votes on Thursday.
Guwahati: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ranoj Pegu wins Assam's Dhemaji assembly by-poll by a margin of 9,285 votes on Thursday.
While the BJP candidate polled 75,217 votes, his Congress rival garnered 65,932 votes.
Voting in the Assam assembly by-election in Dhemaji constituency passed off peacefully on Sunday, with 66.97 percent of the total 2,19,751 voters casting their votes.
The by-election was necessitated as BJP lawmaker Pradan Baruah contested and won the byelection to the Lok Sabha from the Lakhimpur constituency. Sarbananda Sonowal vacated the seat after winning from the Majuli assembly constituency on becoming the Chief Minister.
Total of five candidates were in the fray. Main contest was between BJP's Ranoj Pegu and Congress' Babul Sonowal.

Other three candidates are CPI(M)'s Jadu Hazarika, SUCI(C)'s Hem Kanta Miri and Independent Rajkumar Doley.
