Rajasthan Assembly Election Results 2018: Congress` winning candidate Dr Raghu Sharma hugs losing BJP rival in Kekri
Dr Raghu Sharma, the Congress candidate, defeated his nearest BJP rival Rajendra Vinayaka in the Kekri assembly constituency.
JAIPUR: While his party decimated the ruling BJP in the keenly-contested assembly elections in Rajasthan, a winning candidate from the Congress party set an example by coming forward and hugging his BJP rival who lost the elections to him in Kekri constituency.
According to reports, Dr Raghu Sharma, the Congress candidate, who eventually defeated his nearest BJP rival Rajendra Vinayaka in the Kekri assembly constituency, went to him and hugged him after the official announcement of results.
Surrounded by his supporters, Sharma even praised Vinayaka for contesting the elections in a very responsible manner.
Sharma had made a comfortable lead against Rajendra Vinayaka and was earlier leading by over 7674 votes in the Kekri constituency.
The constituency of Kekri is a part of Rajasthan’s Ajmer district.
The BJP’s Shatrughan Gautam had defeated Sharma in the 2013 Assembly elections by a margin of 8,800 votes.
Kekri was earlier known as Kankawati Nagari, after the princess Kankawati.
The city is famous for its temples, namely the ancient Shiva temple, and the Jain Temple of Shri Shantinath Bhagwan. Apart from Kekri, Ajmer district comprises the constituencies of Pushkar, Ajmer North, Nasirabad, Masuda, Beawar, Ajmer South and Kishangarh.
