A moderate earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.0 jolted Tokyo on Friday , but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. The 1953 GMT (Thursday) tremor, centered about 40 kms below the ground in Japan's capital, rattled office buildings and signboards. An official at the meteorological agency said the quake was not related to the series of quakes that have hit small islands off Tokyo in recent months. More than 13,000 earthquakes have been registered on the Izu island chain since a volcano on one of them rumbled back to life in late June. Bureau Report
