Mumbai: Farhan Akhtar, who had directed the first two instalments of Don starring Shah Rukh Khan, is reportedly gearing up for its third edition. There were reports suggesting that the actor-filmmaker will be playing a police officer in the film. But is that the truth?
Here's taking a look at what Farhan has to say:
Akhtar Tuesday rubbished rumours that he would play the role of a police officer in Don 3.
The 44-year-old director, who recently hinted at working on the script of the third installment with Shah Rukh Khan in the lead, took to Twitter to clarify.
"Request those who conjure up news about #Don3 without any fact checking to please refrain. It is not fair to raise expectations of the films fanbase via false news," Akhtar wrote.
Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani's production company, Excel Entertainment, owns the rights of the Amitabh Bachchan-starrer 1978 film Don.
Don, the first instalment of the franchise that released in 2006 was a remake of Amitabh Bachchan's 1978 namesake film penned by Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar.
SRK's Don also starred Priyanka Chopra, Arjun Rampal, Boman Irani, Isha Koppikar and Om Puri while Don 2 that hit theatres in 2011 Lara Dutta, Kunal Kapoor, Boman Irani, Om Puri and Hrithik Roshan on board.
Last year, Sidhwani said the team had started working on the script and the story.
In terms of direction, it is unclear whether Akhtar, who directed the first two films, will be back at the helms again.
It was rumoured that Deepika Padukone would replace Priyanka Chopra - who played cop, Roma in the first two films of the franchise.
