PM did not want coalition to end: Mayawati

New Delhi, Sept 04: A week after the collapse of her government and her vow to take on BJP at the national level, BSP leader Mayawati today said that Vajapayee was not in favour of ending the coalition and maintained that she still enjoyed good relations with the PM and his deputy L K Advani.
At her first press conference here after ceasing to be Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, she blamed a "group" owing loyalty to the Prime Minister for the fall of the government and parried all questions about either resuming ties with BJP or forging an alliance with Congress in the coming elections.
"Even now I have good relations with both Vajpayee and Advani," she said adding both of them were not in favour of an end to the coalition government.
"Till the last minute Vajpayee did not want the coalition experiment to fail but the pressure on him was so much from the group, comprising Lalji Tandon and Rajnath Singh, that he succumbed to it," Mayawati said. "To this was added the scheming in Delhi by BJP leader Pramod Mahajan and NDA convenor George Fernandes who helped Mulayam Singh Yadav form the new government," she added.
Asked whether the CBI investigation in the Taj corridor scam had made her change her "tune" on BJP, Mayawati said she was not "scared" of it. However, she refused to disclose the details of CBI's questioning of her, maintaining the issue was sub-judice.
"There will be no alliance with any political party. BSP will try to capture power on its own strength in elections in four states and at the Centre," she said.
When asked whether BSP would join hands with the Congress or any other opposition party, she said there would be no need for a tie-up with any party. Claiming that BJP was divided into two groups in UP-- one led by Advani and the other by Vajpayee-- she said both the leaders were "friendly to her" but certain people exerted so much pressure on Vajpayee that Mulayam Singh Yadav government had to be installed.
She said she had no complaint against the Advani group which wanted the BSP-BJP coalition to last its full five-year term. Bureau Report
