New Delhi: Freedom 251 created a lot of sensation and controversy in the gadget market for being the cheapest smartphone and for the business model it adopted for the sale of it.

As per fresh media reports, Ringing Bells, the maker of Freedom 251 smartphone is all set to honour its promise of delivering the smartphone to its first batch of customers.

Technology website Techradar has reported that Freedom 251 smartphones will be delivered to the first 30,000 customers who had booked it and also made payment for it.

Deliveries will start rolling in May, the report says.

Ringing Bells had launched the most affordable phone Freedom 251 in February, and had seen huge response to the device, while drawing criticism from the industry on the pricing front.

While we tried to visit its website again, it says that bookings are closed as of now. It further states that the company is in process of compiling the emails and issuing these to first 25 lakh registrations very soon.

The company seems to have found its new competitor, a Jaipur based company that promises to sell smartphone at Rs 888. The smartphone called Docoss X1 was launched yesterday and is also slated for release on May 2.
