The 30-share BSE Sensex was down 86.33 points at 31,560.13 and the 50-share NSE Nifty slipped 24.15 points to 9,860.25 despite positive market breadth.

Gold prices fell 0.42 per cent to Rs 29,431 per 10 grams in futures trade today as participants cut down bets amid a weak global trend.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, gold prices for delivery in October were trading lower by Rs 124, or 0.42 per cent, to Rs 29,431 per 10 grams in a business turnover of 749 lots.
The 30-share index fell by 50.58 points, or 0.15 per cent, to quote at 31,595.88. It had gained 258.07 points in the previous session. BSE indices led by FMCG, power, teck, banking and metal declined. The NSE Nifty fell by 14.25 points, or 0.14 per cent, at 9,870.15.
The rupee depreciated by 5 paise to 64.06 against the US dollar in early trade today on month-end demand for the American currency from importers and banks.
Spot gold was down 0.4 percent at $1,302.84 per ounce as of 0331 GMT but was on track for a monthly gain of more than 2 percent. U.S. gold futures for December delivery eased 0.5 percent to $1,307.80
