Guwahati, Sept 10: An Ulfa militant and a surrendered Ulfa (Sulfa) cadre were killed in two separate incidents, while six extortionists belonging to militant Karbi National Front and Karbi national volunteers arrested in Assam, police said today. The Ulfa insurgent was killed in an encounter by a joint police and army operation at Bhebladongpar in Barpeta district, police said. A revolver and two Chinese made grenades were recovered from the slain extremist.
In another incident, four Ulfa ultras opened fire at a local club-cum-library killing one sulfa man on the spot at Balajan in Dhubri district. Another sulfa activist and four others escaped unhurt.
A report from karbi anglong district said police today arrested two knv activists when they went to collect rs 80,000 demanded by them from diphu drda upper division clerk bhakat singh.
Meanwhile, police and dacoits exchanged fire last evening at Sibheta. None was injured in the encounter, police said,
