Toronto, May 06: Canada, which is the only country outside Asia to report SARS-linked deaths, has said it has two less active cases of severe acute respiratory syndrome at 66 nationwide. Canada, with a cumulative total of 327 SARS cases unchanged overnight, has had 23 SARS deaths, mostly in the elderly since the outbreak here in mid-March.
Ontario, where all of the deaths have occurred, has a cumulative 265 SARS cases, including 144 probable SARS cases of which 30 people are still hospitalised (active cases), one less than Sunday.
Three of these probable cases are in critical condition.
The remaining cases in Canada's most populous province (121) are suspect SARS cases, where symptoms are less severe. Sixteen of these, or one less than Sunday, are active cases and remain in hospital, including one in critical condition.
The number of SARS cases in provinces outside of Ontario remained unchanged overnight with British Columbia reporting four probable and 46 suspect, Alberta with six suspect cases, Prince Edward island with four suspect cases and New Brunswick with two suspect cases. Bureau Report
