Jalandhar, June 17: Curfew continued today as precautionary measure in Talhan village, scene of caste clashes last week, even after a truce was made between the two communities over the dispute on control of Talhan Gurudwara three days ago. "The situation is normal in the village and other areas including Bootan Mandi, where one person was killed allegedly in police firing, but as a precautionary measure curfew would be continued for a couple of days more in Talhan village," Deputy Commissioner of Police a K Gupta said here.
While in Talhan village relaxation in the curfew was given between 7 am to 12 p m and again between 3 p m to 7 pm, it has been lifted from Bootan Mandi area, where normalcy has returned, he said. Mobile vending vans from Milkfed and district Red Cross Society were put into service in the Talhan village and district administration distributed fodder free of cost to the villagers, he added. During the relaxation in curfew in the village, people of both the communities came out and were seen mixing with each other, eyewitnesses said adding situation was absolutely peaceful in the period.
