Ayodhya, Aug 25: The ASI report that distinctive features of a 10th century temple beneath the Babri mosque site were found during the excavation carried out by it evoked a mixed response in the temple town here today.
While the VHP welcomed the report, the main plaintiff in the Ayodhya case, Haji Hashim Ansari, said that many Islamic relics too were found during the excavation.
Stating the report had vindicated the stand of Hindu community, senior VHP leader Ram Vilas Vedanti urged Muslims to realise the ground realities and give up their claim over the disputed site.
Hindu religious leader Swami Puroshottamacharya said that there was no doubt about the existence of a temple at the acquired land and added a Ram temple should be built there.
On the other hand, Ansari said that though he had not yet seen the report, many Islamic relics were found during the excavation.
He claimed that he had himself seen these relics during the digging.
