Jaipur, July 29: A number of hutments and low-lying areas in Rajasthan's Barmer district have been inundated following torrential rains, police sources said today. Villagers were marooned at Jhabha-ki-Dhani and adjoining villages of Shiv tehsil after heavy downpour since yesterday, the sources said.
Many low-lying colonies in capital Jaipur were also waterlogged.
More than 25 major dams had filled up due to rain and water was flowing above the danger mark in 12 more, the sources said.
In Banswara, Kota, Pali and Udaipur districts, some gates of the dams were opened to release water so that the structures did not suffer breaches, they said.
Incessant rains affected normal life and vehicular traffic in Barmer, Jalore, Sirohi, Udaipur, Banswara, Jaipur, and Ajmer districts.
Mount Abu recorded the maximum rainfall of 18 cms till 8.30 am today, followed by Barmer and Kotara, Chohatan, Jhadole, Bheenmal, Arnod, Khairwara, Mawali, Shiv, Gudamalani, Jalore, Beesalpur and Udaipur.
More rain was predicted over the next 24 hours.
