New Delhi: Railway passengers will heave a sigh of relief this festive season for they might not have to to cancel their waitlisted tickets at the last minute.

As per a national daily report railways would provide them an alternate accommodation in the next train on which seats are available thereby allowing them to travel to the same destination on another train.

The Times of India report said that passengers travelling from stations which are not origins or destinations can also avail this option. The paper further says that this Alternate Trains Accommodation Scheme (ATAS) will be launched on November 1.

It may be recalled that IRCTC had in June come up with a scheme by offering passengers who fail to get their waitlisted ticket confirmed an option to convert it into an airline ticket at a competitive fare.
