Petition in TN HC to restrain govt from arresting employees
Chennai, July 03: Even as the Tamil Nadu government invoked the provisions of ESMA against some of its striking employees, the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Subordinate Officers Association today filed a petition in madras high court to restrain the government from arresting employees under the act.

Association today filed a petition in madras high court to restrain the government from arresting employees under the act.
In the petition, the association's president, P Dhandapani
also sought a direction to declare invoking of ESMA as
unconstitutional and ultra vires, saying it violated the
fundamental rights as guaranteed under the constitution.
He also sought to restrain the state from registering or arresting government employees, including members of his association under the act.
The petitioner also prayed for staying operations of the act till disposal of the petition, which is likely to come up for hearing tomorrow.
