Kuala Lumpur, June 25: Football superstar David Beckham yesterday said that his move to join Real Madrid was ''a dream come true'', made even sweeter with the team's recent victory in the Spanish league championships.
''It just made me feel so excited to get over there and start playing and meet the players,'' Beckham said at a press conference in Malaysia's capital Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where he attended a promotional tour.
''To join a team like Real Madrid is massive in anyone's eyes,'' he said. ''It's a dream come true. I am really so excited about it.''
Beckham, who last week agreed to move from Manchester to Real Madrid in one of sport's most expensive and hyped-up transfers, was greeted by thousands of cheering fans as he arrived at a stadium for his two-hour show.
Later, the England captain told a local television station that he was ''really, really excited'' about the move to Real Madrid.
When asked to comment on his superstar status as a football player, as well as his high-profile lifestyle, Beckham said:''The most important thing for me is football''.
Beckham, who arrived in Malaysia without his wife Victoria, former Spice girl ''Posh'', had just flown in Tuesday from Bangkok, Thailand. The couple had slipped into Bangkok on Sunday to take part in a television commercial. Sponsors declined to comment on why Victoria had not accompanied Beckham to Malaysia on the third leg of his Asian tour.
Foreign journalists were barred from covering Beckham's visit, and local journalists were only been given limited access to the footballer.
