New Delhi: In the past few weeks, rumours that Rs 10 coins have been declared invalid by the RBI have spread like wildfire in market. There is confusion among the shopkeepers, vendors and customers regarding the same. Various cases have been reported where people have asked banks to exchange Rs 10 coins with notes.
As per information, the rumours were initiated through a messages on WhatsApp and Facebook which went viral. This is how panic spread among people.
What's the reality?
As per bank officials, RBI has issued no such notification declaring Rs 10 coin invalid. Even an FIR could be registered against a person for refusing a legal form of money. So, Rs 10 coin is completely valid and fit for use.
Anyone who refuses to abide by the rules and regulations of the RBI and spreads rumours can be booked under 489 A to 489 E of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
So, rumour-mongers can face strict action for the same.
