Hyderabad, Oct 28: Shooters Anjali Bhagwat and Jaspal Rana stole the limelight with silver medals but India failed to add a gold medal to their kitty to slip to the seventh position on the medals table after the fourth day of competitions in the inaugural Afro-Asian Games here today. The hosts managed to collect as many as seven silver and two bronze medals to boost their overall medals tally but the gold medals remained elusive on a rather disappointing day for India.
The Indians slumped to the seventh position on the medals table with three gold, 17 silver and 13 bronze medals with Asian powerhouse China widening the gap atop the table with a tally of 14-4-2. South Africa jumped to the second position with 8-7-9 while Japan were in the third spot with a tally of 7-2-1.
Apart from the creditable efforts of Anjali and Rana in the shooting range at the central university, Bobby Aloysius (high jump) Gurmeet Kaur (javelin) and swimmer Nisha Millet were among the silver medal winners for the host nation.
The swimming pool also proved to be quite productive for the host nation with the swimmers picking up three silver and a bronze medal, but the gold continued to elude them.
Mandar Divse brought the spotlight on himself by securing the silver medal in the men's 1500m freestyle with a timing of 16:49.75 while the talented Nisha Millet also had her share of glory by taking second position in women's 400 m freestyle.
