Jakarta, Oct 09: Indonesian police today said they have been granted permission to interrogate Southeast Asia's top terror suspect Hambali, who is in US custody at an undisclosed location. Since his August arrest in Thailand, Indonesian authorities have publicly called for the United States to give them access to Hambali and demanded that he eventually be handed over to Indonesia for trial.
Police chief Da'i Bachtiar said he received word from Security Minister Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono that the interrogation will take place. But he said a time and a date have not been set. "We will be given the opportunity to interrogate Hambali," Bachtiar told reporters. "We are now just waiting for a proper time." A spokesman at the US Embassy in Jakarta said he had no information on the Indonesian announcement and could not confirm that Washington had granted access to Hambali. Bureau Report
