Authorities instructed to observe strict vigil in Meghalaya
Shillong, Aug 10: Meghalaya government has instructed authorities to keep a strict vigil in view of the call given by some militant outfits and ngos to boycott Independence Day celebrations, Chief Minister F A Khonglam said today.

Security has already been tightened throughout the state and international border with Bangladesh to prevent militants' movement, Khonglam told reporters here. Prohibitory orders have been issued in Ri-Bhoi district.
The Peoples's Liberation Front has called a 24-hour bandh from 5 pm of August 14 in three districts of Garo Hills and asked the people to boycott the celebration.
The HNLC and ANVC, the main two militant groups in the state, who had given similar boycott calls on earlier occasions have not given the call this time. Bureau Report
