New Delhi: Mahendra Singh Dhoni turned for his first Indian Premier League (IPL) match as a non-captain on Thursday in Pune. Playing for hosts Rising Pune Supergiant, the legend was rather quiet behind the stumps, until the 15th over against visiting Mumbai Indians.

Then, this happened. An angry Dhoni, sarcastically, called for a review even as umpire S Ravi turned down a LBW appeal against Kiern Pollard off the second ball of the over, bowled by Imran Tahir.


Dhoni was energetic in the appeal, jumping and pleading relentlessly. But the umpire turned down it. Reviews showed the ball hitting the pad first, then the trajectory of the ball crashing into the wickets.

In the context of the match, it's kind of poetic justice. Earlier in the innings, Tahir benefitted from a poor call from Ravi, when he judged Jos Buttler out LBW despit the ball hitting bat first.
