New Delhi: Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali's much-talked-about period drama Padmavati has been in news forever. After massive protests in the country and enough controversial statements being made against the makers and the cast by fringe groups, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) gave it a clean chit.

The CBFC has given a UA certificate to the film without any cuts but has suggested that the director change the film's title to Padmavat besides making four other modifications.


Soon after the title change was suggested, social media had a field day in coming up with various memes and hilarious tweets on the subject. The internet was flooded with reactions from people across the country over Padmavati's title change.

The period drama is based on the 16th-century epic poem Padmavat by Malik Muhammad Jayasi and that explains why the stress on the new title.


Padmavati features Deepika Padukone in the titular role as Rani Padmini, Shahid Kapoor plays Maharawal Ratan Singh whereas Ranveer Singh will be seen as Alauddin Khilji.


The film was earlier scheduled to hit the screens on December 1, 2017, but after facing major protests across the nation by fringe groups, its release date was pushed ahead for indefinite time.


Now that CBFC has given it a green signal, we can't wait for the new release date to be announced soon.
