New Delhi: Just as the auspicious festivity of Diwali comes to an end, the country celebrates yet another special day known as 'Bhai Dooj' or Bhau-Beej/Bhai Tika/Bhai Phota in several parts. The day is observed on the second day of the bright fortnight or Shukla Paksha of the Hindu lunar month of Kartika.

This day is quite similar to Raksha Bandhan where sisters pray for their brothers long and happy life. There is a traditional 'tika' ceremony which is customary on this day. In the southern part of the country, the day is celebrated as Yama Dwitiya.

This year Bhai Dooj is being celebrated on November 9.
