Chennai, July 04: The striking government employees in Tamil Nadu have moved the Chennai High Court against the state government's decision to invoke Esma against them. The high court has admitted their plea and will give a hearing on Monday.
Meanwhile, work in government offices across the state continued to be paralysed for the third consecutive day as employees abstained from duty demanding restoration of curtailed benefits and a rollback in the pension cut. The government, however, claimed 40 per cent of the staff, mostly women, reported for duty in the secretariat.
The government also started work on recruiting educated unemployed youth for a consolidated salary of Rs.5000 per month as a huge number of youth turned up at the employment exchanges. Official sources said that 10,000 temporary staff would report for duty from Monday next and would man important offices like the district collectorates and taluk offices. Bureau Report
