Haining (China), Sep 02: Haining, China's leather and fur capital in the booming eastern province of Zhejiang, is keen on tie-ups with leading Indian leather firms for mutually-beneficial business ties to boost bilateral trade, local industry officials said.
"Recently, we had the first-ever delegation of Indian leather traders visiting this city to visit our facilities and discuss future cooperation," manager of the Information Department of the Haining China leather market administrative committee, Zha Jialin told a news agency.
Zha said that though the leather firms in Haining had established business links with distant countries like Turkey and Italy, they have never looked at the neighbouring country, India as a source for raw material or as a possible market for Chinese leather products. "After the visit of the Indian delegation to our city, some of our businessmen are exploring the possibility of tie-ups with countries like India for raw leather," she said.
The vice mayor of the city Shi Zhen Dong said her administration was interested in promoting ties with India.
"Our government is keen on promoting business ties with foreign countries, including India, in a range of fields and we offer favourable policies to overseas investors," Shi said. The city has Asia's largest leather market export goods processing area with an area of 300,000 square metres, built at an investment of 25 million USD.
