New Delhi, Jan 02: Bangladesh today described as "totally baseless" reports that Dhaka was providing sanctuary to anti-Indian insurgent groups fleeing from Bhutan following a military campaign to flush them out of the Himalayan kingdom. "These reports can only serve to create misunderstanding and misgivings", Bangladesh High Commission said in a press release here.
Bangladesh has consistently maintained that it has no interest in fomenting instability in its neighbourhood because such instability cannot benefit Bangladesh and it was detrimental to its interest, the release said.
"The Bangladesh government's immediate and spontaneous decision to seal its borders following news of operations launched in Bhutan and its repeated assurances that it would never allow its territory to be used against another country is a reiteration of the fact that insurgents have no place in Bangladesh", the release said.
Bangladesh did not allow or harbour or give assistance to any insurgent group or for that matter any agent of a third country for acts against another country and this policy was being pursued by the government meticulously, it said.
"All allegations of insurgency/intelligence activities allegedly carried out against India from Bangladesh territory have been thoroughly investigated and found to be without basis. This has been communicated to the Indian authorities at a very high level", it said.
