Khatima, Oct 15: Three gangsters were killed and three policemen, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police, were injured in an exchange of fire with a gang of criminals in the jungles of Jhankayya in Udham Singh Nagar district near here today. Following a tip-off that nearly two dozen criminals had gathered in the jungle, police cordoned off the area and asked them to surrender.
However, the gangsters fired at the police and in the ensuing exchange of fire three of the criminals were killed on the spot, SSP, Udhamsingh Nagar, S S Negi, said. A DSP, A K Bhatt, and two other policemen were also injured. Negi said the operation, which began at 0200 hours, was still continuing. The criminals were wanted in several road hold-ups and looting incidents. They were also involved in looting of a roadways bus coming from Bareilly at Chakarpur jungles on Monday night. Bureau Report
