Ahmedabad, June 15: Advocate of Zaheer Rana, accused in multi-level-marketing scam, today alleged that his client was being targeted by the Gujarat government because of his 'minority' status. Hashim Qureshi, who appeared on behalf of Rana in high court, said at a press conference here that the state government and the local police were settling a "personal score" with the CMD of Remo Marketing Private Ltd by lodging a "baseless case" against him.

"Just as minority community was targeted during the communal riots, Rana is being targeted in the same manner in this case,” Qureshi alleged.
Qureshi also accused the state home minister of giving premature statements and indulging in "false propoganda" regarding the company's debts even as the matter is pending in the metropolitian and high court.
Rana was accused in the multi-crore scam of defrauding people through dubious monetary schemes in his multi-level marketing firm Remo Marketing Ltd.

Rana's bail petition was rejected by a metropolitan court on Friday.
