Surankote (J-K), May 12: More than a year after the success of 'operation Sarp-Vinash' in hill Kaka mountains, army has launched another major operation 'silver strike' to clear militants from Poonch border district's Surankote sector, which has been used as a safe sanctuary by foreign mercenaries in Jammu and Kashmir. “We have launched another major operation codenamed 'silver strike' to eliminate large number of militants and clear Surankote hills of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir," Brigade Commander, Romeo force, Brig M K Kushwaha told reporters here today. Known as home-cum-operational hub of militants, especially foreign mercenaries, the Surankote-Darasangla sector has a hostile terrain. Brig Kushwaha, who head ‘silver strike’ operation, said that "We will clear entire Surankote-Darasangla belt by the end of may from militants, who have setup hideouts and bunkers in the area as per our intelligence inputs.”

Based on the inputs from various intelligence agencies regarding presence of large number of militants in Dara-Sangla (Surankote) sector, operation silver strike was planned by the troops counter insurgency forces (Romeo), he said.

Despite the terrain being highly forested and rugged and lack of pin point intelligence, the entire mountainous terrain was kept under discreet surveillance continously for five days, he said.
