India recognises Tibet as part of China
Beijing, June 24: In a major concession, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today recognised the autonomous region of Tibet as part of People`s Republic China.
Beijing, June 24: In a major concession, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today recognised the autonomous region of Tibet as part of People`s Republic China.
It also reiterated that New Delhi will not allow Tibetans
to engage in anti-China political activities in India.
But on their part, China termed Sikkim as "still a subject of discussion", implying that China has not yet recognised it as a part of India. China also said that an `overnight solution` was not possible to the Sikkim issue.
Meanwhile, both the countries have appointed a special representative to explore from the political perspective of the overall bilateral relationship a framework on the boundary settlement.
India has appointed national security adviser Brajesh Mishra as special representative on Sino-Indian border issue. On its part, China has appointed its seniormost vice minister in the ministry of foreign affairs as its special representative.
