Beijing, Nov 04: The death toll in the toxic chlorine cylinder explosion in east China`s Zhejiang province has risen to two with more than 100 people still admitted to hospitals, the state media reported today. The accident occurred when a cylinder of liquid chlorine exploded yesterday in Pingyang county, Xinhua news agency reported.
At least eight of those poisoned were still in critical condition, the report said.
Rescue work is still underway, according to local sources.
The tragedy occurred when the steel cylinder containing a tonne of liquid chlorine suddenly blew up in Liandong village of Wenzhou city, where the illegal use of chemicals to bleach acrylic fibre in household workshops is common.
