Lucknow, Nov 12: A Vidhan Parishad committee's suggestion to
initiate action against a senior IAS officer relating to a
corruption case has put the state IAS cadre to yet another
embarrasment.
This comes close on heels after four senior ias officers of the state were alleged to have been involved in the Taj Heritage Corridor (THC) case. The CBI is conducting an enquiry into the high profile matter.
The committee has directed the government for an enquiry by the CBI or the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) against Harish Chandra. The Parishad's parliamentary and social amity committee has found the officer guilty of abusing his post for vested gains.
The committee, in its report, has observed since the enquiry involved a senior state IAS officer, it would benefit the impartial probe to get it conducted by a central agency.
The officer is alleged to have transferred a piece of land belonging to a dalit woman in Lucknow district in his father's name through illegal means.
The 349-page report also mentions the report of Revenue Board Chief A K Rastogi, which said this case was not merely concerned with the revenue department because the some points in the case pointed to the working of several other departments as well.
Chandra had earlier been suspended during the mayawati regime relating to reservation in sports, while he was posted as Prinicipal Secretary Sports.
