Bhubaneswar, Oct 08: The Orissa government has rejected a petition seeking release on parole of Dara Singh, sentenced to death in the Graham Staines murder case, to enable him to attend the funeral of his father at his native village in Uttar Pradesh. The petition, addressed to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, had been filed by Dharm Rakshak Sri Dara Sena requesting the government to release him for at least 15 days on humanitarian ground to visit Kakore village in Etawah district and perform the last rites. In a letter to R K Bharadwaj, patron of Dharm Rakshak Sri Dara Sena, the state's Principal Secretary in the home department said that the petition had no mention that it had the consent of the convict in question. Releasing copies of the letter, dated October 6, to the media here today, C S Rathour, lawyer for Bharadwaj and his organisation, said it pointed out that the convict had submitted no such petition for his release on parole as yet.
