New Delhi, July 23: Government tonight deferred a decision on an ambitious social security scheme to provide old age pension and medical and umeployment insurance to 37 crore workers in the unorganised sector. The cabinet, which took up the bill for this purpose, decided to refer it to a group of ministers, official sources said here. The proposal to bring in 'unorganised sector workers bill, 2003' follows the recommendations of second Labour Commission, which submitted its report to the government last year. The Commission had suggested enactment of separate legislation for the unorganised sector in view of hardships faced by workers in that sector, which did not enjoy any form of social security.
