Kapurthala, May 10: Shiromani Akali Dal president Parkash Singh Badal today said that new Akali Dal would not hamper the unity talks of the factions led by him and Gurcharan Singh Tohra. Talking to mediapersons here, he said he could not set up any time frame for the unity of different Akali factions to set up the new Akali Dal and added that it could take one day or even a month.
He said he did not want to comment any more on the proposed unity move but expressed the hope that "Sikh Panth" would be "united soon". Commenting upon breakaway Akali factions, he said they had no credibility in the eyes of Sikhs and the unity of five to seven persons did not mean formation of Akali Dal.
On Thursday, former speaker and Akali leader Ravi Inder Singh had announced that new Akali Dal would be formed within two months to "counter former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and the Congress". Meanwhile, addressing a meeting here, Punjab Pardesh Congress Committee president H S Hanspal said that Akali unity was not a threat to the Congress party.
He alleged that Akalis were divided on the issue of distribution of rs 100 crore grant for the 300 years celebration of Khalsa Panth. Bureau Report
